Kyle grew up in Southern California, fleeing the cities for wild, open spaces every chance he could get. In 2010 he made his way up to Southeast Alaska to take some sea kayak guide training and never really left. The first several years were spent guiding, instructing, and managing sea kayaking operations in Southeast Alaska, Baja Mexico, and Belize, but was primarily based in Glacier Bay. In 2015 Kyle and his wife decided to settle down in Gustavus and traded in their tent for a baby and a mortgage. He then took a job with Glacier Bay National Park as a Maintenance Worker/ Preservationist in an attempt to be away from home less, but it turned into a lifelong career in Facilities Management. His passion for volunteering, preservation work, sea kayaking, and wild places make him and ERLPA a great fit. Since Kyle’s first kayak trip to Eldred Rock in 2012, it’s been a dream of his to get involved with its restoration.
